Tonight, the Residentie Orkest takes the stage with a program full of eighteenth-century gems. At the heart of the evening is mezzo-soprano Maria Warenberg, a remarkable Dutch vocal talent performing powerful concert arias by Haydn, Mozart, and Rossini.
The evening opens with Haydn’s Scena di Berenice, a dramatic aria in which Berenice pleads for her lost love. Warenberg showcases her expressive strength in this emotional piece. Next up is Mozart’s Symphony No. 39, where joy and elegance dance hand in hand.
Haydn returns with Se non piange un’infelice, an aria filled with sorrow and technical brilliance. His Symphony No. 49, also known as La Passione, reveals a different side of the composer: dark, intense, and boldly experimental.
The evening concludes with music by Rossini. First, the playful overture to La scala di seta, followed by the famous aria Una voce poco fa from Il barbiere di Siviglia. Warenberg delivers it with tenderness and charm, punctuated by sudden bursts of flair and vocal power.
The Residentie Orkest is led by principal guest conductor Richard Egarr. Together with Warenberg, he promises a vibrant and varied evening full of emotion and virtuosity.
With this concert, De Harmonie once again welcomes a distinguished orchestra from beyond the region, offering a fresh complement to the beloved Noord Nederlands Orkest. It’s a wonderful opportunity for audiences to discover new ensembles and soloists.
